Magdalena Marciniak (b.1978, Poland) is a glass artist whose creative journey unfolds on the tranquil fringe of Bunyaville Conservation Park (in Yugarabul country), Brisbane, Australia.
Magdalena draws her inspiration from nature, and in particular the depths of the forest and the profound connections it forges, emphasizing that we are an integral part of the greater natural tapestry.
Her preferred medium is kiln-formed glass, manipulating transformed glass pieces obtained from glass sheets, frits, and powders and through torchwork.
Magdalena won the 2009 Craftex Award (UK), the 2010 Pearson Prize (UK) for her innovative multi-layered kiln-formed glass painting, the 2016 Storylines Art Bursary (QLD). She has received grant funding from the Moreton Bay Regional Council under the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Continue Creating 2022 scheme.
My Art
The artwork I create engenders a dialogue between myself, the artist, and glass, the medium: a dance of transformation and revelation.
Glass, to me, serves as the most profound means of artistic expression. Initially seductive with its inherent beauty, it gradually unveils its boundless potential—some known, and yet more awaiting discovery.
My engagement with glass parallels the intricate path of life itself, demanding presence, connection, patience, and mindfulness.
My artistic focus currently centers on kiln-formed glass and the exploration of glass paintings—an avenue through which I continue to uncover the multifaceted facets of this captivating medium.
Series: Searching for Tranquillity
In these pieces, from the series “Searching for Tranquility”, I celebrate the profound interconnection between humanity and nature.
Through glass, my aim is not only to capture the sought-after tranquility of the forest, but also to evoke the essence of our shared existence—where fragility and strength, intricacy and simplicity converge in harmonious unity.
